Episode 2: Salomon Heine Trailer

In May 1842, flames swept through Hamburg for four days. Banks faltered, trade stopped, and large parts of the city lay in ruins. Salomon Heine provided substantial emergency loans that stabilized the city’s finances and enabled reconstruction to begin.

Though long excluded from full civic rights, he became one of Hamburg’s most decisive benefactors. This episode uncovers the documents behind his intervention and the story of a man who helped rebuild a city that kept him at arm’s length.
